Today is the fourteenth day of the April A to Z Challenge. I will be writing about different frog species based on their latin species names! See the introduction here.
Megaphyrus Nasuta – Malayan Leaf Frog
These frogs are very modestly colored and designed to fit in extremely well with their surroundings. The variation of browns, tans and greys along with their leaf like appearance and they can virtually disappear into the forest floor.
M. nasuta is a ferocious predator. It will typically wait for an unsuspecting victim to pass by and then explode onto it and begin engulfing it. They will typically feed on arachnids, rodents, lizards and other frogs. Although they are explosive feeders, they have a very soft call which is produced as a single note and will stop at the slightest disturbance. “Ching!”

These frogs originate from Indonesia, Malaysia & Singapore. These frogs will reach 5″ in length.
I love how the portion above their eyes make them so look so inquisitive.
