Today is the tenth day of the April A to Z Challenge. I will be writing about different frog species based on their latin species names! See the introduction here.
Ceratophrys joazeirensis – Caatinga Horned Frog
This species of horned frogs can range from 4-4.5″ long.

C. joazeirensis is from Brazil & can often be found in the dry savanna, tropical dry scrubland and lowland grassland areas. These frogs breed in temporary pools of water.

The caatinga horned frog, as with most horned frogs, tend to wait motionless for their prey to come across their path. They have been known to try to eat anything that can fit in their large mouth.
Sorry for the short post today, however these frogs do not have a lot of information regarding them. But it does start with J 🙂

Waiting for their prey to come along, while remaining motionless–interesting technique.
It is! Definitely the lazy way out! Must be how they conserve energy to maintain their figure 🙂
Too bad I didn’t know you a few years back. We bought a house from the children of a woman who died. They left her vast collection of FROG stuff behind for us to clean out (figurines, frog themed bathroom curtain and soap dishes, garden art, pictures, plates, etc. etc. etc.)
