Today is the fourth day of April’s A to Z Challenge. I will be writing about different frog species based on their latin species names! See the introduction here:
Polypedates denysii -Chinese Gliding Frog
These frogs can range in color from bright green to blue green. Since they are nocturnal they have large black eyes.

The Chinese Gliding Frog is part of a small amount of frogs who are foam nesters. The female will lay her eggs in a nest of a meringue like substance that will hold the eggs until they hatch or the foam dissolves. The nest is created over the water on plants or grasses so that as they hatch they can fall into the water.

Tree frogs can by their nature jump farther than most other frogs. In order to escape, these frogs are good gliders. This is due to their strong webbing between their toes and fingers. This webbing acts like a wing when they spread their toes. Once in the air they are able to steer and change direction with their suction pads on their toes allowing them to land safely. They are mainly active at night when it is safer and they rely on camouflage as their primary means of defense.

The Chinese Gliding Frog’s number is dwindling from forest loss, non-timber forest product collection, plantations, wildfires and changes to hydrology. Small numbers are also exported for the international pet trade.
Hope you enjoyed Letter D. Stay tuned for letter E!

Super cool!
yes. I love their eyes- they look so fake!
Hey there! Visiting your blog for the first time, through A to Z Challenge. The photos you showed of this frog are gorgeous and I appreciate the information you shared. I’ll be back for sure!
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by, so glad you could find it! I’m headed over to yours now 🙂
Froggie is bigger than I expected!
Yeah! and look at those feet!
Love amphibians and frogs. Glad you popped over and lovely to meet you. Wonderful theme. Going to be coming back.
Awesome! I am glad to meet another who loves amphibians and frogs! I have met many who think they are scary throughout the challenge thus far!
I always worry about these very shiny frogs. Are they slimier than the others? Or is it just a trick of the light – or something to do with their foam nests.
I had my first frog of the year in the garden today – sitting on a slab of stone sunning itself. I reckon that means they’ve finished mating. (I had some earlier but only when I moved something to uncover them).

Naw, I don’t think tree frogs are any slimier than any other frog, must just be the light or it just had taken a dip in some water prior to the photo.
Very interesting! Foam! Who knew?
yeah! I was unaware it was foam until I started this challenge! I even taught myself something new!
That first picture is gorgeous… And the foam nest is kind of genius 🙂 I didn’t know about any of this, thank you!

Thanks! I was unaware of foam nests prior to starting this challenge so I learned something new as well!
What a great theme for the A-Z this year. I LOVE frogs. I don’t own any pets, but if I did, the frog would likely be one I’d consider.
Starting my A-Z road trip.
Thanks!!! I love them too 🙂 They are pretty easy going!
