Here is a list of types of leaf litter that are suitable for terrariums (and some that aren’t). Make sure to sterilize all leaves, no matter the origin; here are my recommendations on sterilization.
Leaf Litter good for Terrariums:
These leaves are smaller in size which makes them more convenient to fit places. They are hardy and have a good longevity within the tank.

There are many types of Oak leaves. Most types of Oak leaves are suitable for a terrarium as they decompose slowly. Oak leaves have a unique shape which leaves holes in between leaves which will be utilized by both frogs and bugs. Some varieties of oak which are suitable are: Live Oak, Pin Oak, Water Oak and Willow Oak.
These leaves are big! They are mostly flat so they stack real nicely within a tank. You can also lean them against the glass or background to create breeding areas for thumbnails.

These leaves are smaller than most other leaves. These are frequently used in tadpole tea.

Good for increasing tannins in paludariums, but their large surface area is great for creating obstructions and hiding spots.
Maple

These leaves are different than most leaves as they break down quickly. This makes them good for micro-fauna.
Palm

These leaves last for what seems like forever. They are porous and stringy which gives them a unique appearance within the terrarium.
Cacao

These leaves can be over 6″ long. They can be crushed or broken to place in the terrarium.
Monkey Pods

Monkey Pods are great for egg deposition sites, hiding places or just leaf litter. These will least a long time within the terrarium even in humid conditions.

These leaves have a unique shape, but will break down quickly. Luckily, if from an area that does not use pesticides they can be locally collected.
Avoid:
Crotons

These leaves look very cool, however they are potentially toxic to amphibians.
Eucalyptus– potentially toxic to other plants and amphibians
Evergreen– these can be very annoying if stuck to their skin
