Sorry I have not been on my regular schedule of posting 3 times per week, but I have been crazy busy working on the 26 posts for April. (See this post if you have not heard about my A to Z of Backgrounds posts for April) I have grossly underestimated the amount of time it would take to write all these posts so I am feeling a little behind. Although, I am a planner so I would love to be done with them prior to the month starting and then work on other posts for the next month.
I feel like lately I have been setting up lots of temporary tanks and yet again I find myself with a temporary tank. Recently all of the temporary tanks have been due to some new little ones, however this time it is due to (1) having STS or short tongue syndrome. I have been watching him eat for weeks now and although he is getting better at catching the flies he still will miss quite a few. I have separated him with another littler guy from the other 2 in order to give the littler ones a little extra practice at catching the flies and fatten them up a bit. I have been providing Repashy Calcium Plus at every feeding & Repashy Vitamin A once a month. Since I have noticed him missing the flies I bumped up the vitamin A to once a week so we shall see how he does. I have seen an improvement so far so I am hoping he will make a full recovery.
Have you ever dealt with STS? How did you resolve the issue & did your frog ever fully recover?
Hope you all have a great weekend and that you tune back next Wednesday for the start of A to Z of Terrarium Backgrounds! Remember to subscribe by email to receive an instantaneous update when I post.

Hello, I believe my American toad has STS. I just got the Repahsy multivitamin and tried feeding her several times today without success she tries and gets nothing every time. The last time I fed her was two days ago and she ate 2 waxworms. I am worried that was my last chance. Otherwise she is energetic and keeping to her soaking, hiding, exploring routine in her 10 gal tank. She has clean dechlorinated purified water with minerals daily, and a infrared lamp that I turn on as needed. I have been breeding isopods for her it has taking a few weeks to have some that are the right size which I dusted with Repashy and offered. Her she really tried but didnt catch anything. I am going to move her closer to the window to get some more natural light. I hope she can eat overnight when the isopods come out but I wont know if she will successful. I wonder if I release her if she would do better having more food cross her path. I feel so badly now that we brought her in. My girls love her so much and we live in an apartment that doesn’t allow pets and so we thought it could work since we set up a terrarium for her that and she hides so much. I have kept many frogs and toads in the past and we have happy healthy salamanders in another terrarium also wild caught. I have read many posts and no one follows up with whether or not the vitamins actually worked or not. How did your toads do? What can you recommend? Thank you.
I would start dusting her food with Repashy Vitamin A. The Vitamin A helped my frog. Even trace amounts from hitting the insect and missing will still help, but typically the STS is caused by a vitamin A shortage. Be careful with the Vitamin A once it is healed though, as it is very easy to overdose the frog/toad on it.
